Housing Designed for Wind Resilience
A multifamily development designed to meet FORTIFIED Multifamily enhanced wind resilience standards while maintaining long-term durability and constructability.
Problem
Bee Creek Crossing is a 60-unit, 3-story senior living apartment in Murray, KY. The project's developers opted to pursue FORTIFIED Roof certification for the project to take advantage of available incentives for resilience, as well as to reduce the risk of financial loss or damage from high winds -- an increasing risk in the region due to climate change and the resulting increase in severe weather.
The project had a tight timeline and required careful coordination between the structural engineer, architect, general contractor, framing and roofing subcontractors, and the FORTIFIED Multifamily Evaluator to ensure that the detailed requirements of the FORTIFIED program were incorporated into the design, properly installed, and clearly documented -- without compromising the project schedule.
